Mayors' Summit & General Assembly Meeting

to be held on 3 November 2009 at the City Hall of Helsinki

This year the Mayors' Summit represents a unique opportunity to recall the past. Indeed during the last decade valuable experiences have been exchanged and know-how transferred allowing the network to mature and to expand by adding to its structure: nowadays GCD counts more than 200 cities located over the five continents and for each of these continents there is a vice chair city in charge for the region. The "GCD-Philosophie" helps GCD to grow from 12 founding members to a more complex but useful structure, this means becoming an international non-profit organization (AISBL) registered under Belgian law in January 2008 and thus providing the network new means of collaboration e.g. being partner for joint projects in the framework of international programmes.

On Tuesday, 3 November 2009, in the morning the participants will experience three interactive Mini Round Tables focussing on:

  • "Mobile Public Services", "Digital Solidarity" and" ICT and Climate Change", issues already tackled in the Action Plan 2009 - 2010.
On this purpose the cities, members of the Steering Committee, who proposed the main issues of the Action Plan at the last General Assembly Meeting held in Lyon, will moderate their respective round table.

Members and guests will also enjoy for the first time to have some GCD-members/guest speakers contributing to the Summit via Telepresence, a high quality videoconferencing system friendly provided by Cisco.

Another attracting item of the programme in the afternoon will be the visit of the Living Lab "Arabianranta" in Helsinki or the particiipation to the “Living Labs Innovative Vol.3” seminar, during which, among other presentations, GCD will have the opportunity to report on the benefits generated by the living labs based in the GCD-cities.

The programme can be found here.

The 10th Mayors' Summit of the Global Cities Dialogue will be the place to be for local authorities to learn about new issues and to network at the global level. For non-members the participation in the Summit is free and by invitation only.

Feel free to contact us for providing your city or insitution an invitation or more detailed information on the network's event are available online.
